Celebrations

A glass of cider, a roaring fire and thou.

On the night before New Year’s Eve, CiderWriter got married.

Thank you for the best wishes, but not this New Year’s Eve. Not even this millennium.

Back in the day this convergence got us into double trouble. There are stories we could tell. There are stories our kids could tell, once they got old enough to take advantage of their parents’ two-day disappearance around holiday party time.

But for the last few years we’ve scaled back the celebrating to a single night out on the town and this year we chose to rock the Roaring Twenties in, so the anniv was observed at home.

It was the perfect night to stay in and sidle up to the fire with that special someone and sip some cider. So we did. The someone, obviously, was the esposo. The cider was the very classy sounding DOMAINE DE LA MINOTIERE CIDRE FERMIER BIO BRUT. This 750 ml bottle of aromatic apple hails from the Normandy region. It’s a French farmhouse cider, which, I gather, tends towards earthiness. There’s a little cloudiness. Some funk. It’s a Brut, but one that never lets you forget you’re drinking something dervied of apple.

At its price point, I’d call it a special occasion treat – the perfect accompaniment to a romantic winter night on the eve of the eve of 2020!
